Is there a relationship between obesity and Alzheimer’s?

Yes, according to a new study that followed over a million women with a mean age of 56 in the U.K. for 15 years. At the end of the study, researchers found that women with a BMI of over 30 (considered obese) were 21 percent more likely to develop dementia than women with a BMI of 20 to 24.9.

Keep moving! For all kinds of reasons.

It’s important to keep in mind that obesity is just one factor. Genetics and exposure to air pollution are also factors, as are diet and exercise—two factors that are under your control. I recommend that women eat a balanced diet and get regular exercise. Other research shows that staying active reduces the likelihood that you’ll develop Alzheimer’s, so keep moving!
